FAQ about SLS

Who qualifies for services?
Any student who is enrolled in CUSD may be referred by their teacher, academic counselor, administrator or school psychologist.

How quickly can my child be seen by an SLS Counselor?
We make every effort to assign the referred student to a counselor within 2 weeks. However, at times there is a high volume of referrals resulting in a waitlist. You may ask about approximate wait time.

What if there’s a long waitlist? What are my child’s options?
CUSD partners with community programs/ agencies (CareSolace, ALAS, BHRS...) and can refer students to outside support services as well as develop support strategies in school/the classroom.

Where are services provided and for how long will they be seen? Counseling sessions take place on school campus during the school day. Counseling sessions are typically 8-10 weeks for approximately 40 minutes in length.

What if my child needs more than 10 sessions?
The SLS counselor will assist the student/ family with referral(s) to community resources for additional support.
