All students at El Granada receive instruction based on the California state standards in English language arts, mathematics and science. In addition to rigorous academics, the school offers instruction in art, music and physical education to all students, and students have access to a fully-stocked library.

El Granada was named a Project School by Teachers College at Columbia University in New York.  Teachers at El Granada benefit from intensive professional development conducted by the university.  Through the Teacher’s College  Reading and Writing Project, teachers use standards aligned tools, curriculum and strategies to engage students in becoming avid and skilled readers and writers as they explore a large range of books in both  fiction and nonfiction titles and write purposely across a variety of genres including memoir, opinion and informational. Student choice in both title and topic  allows them to explore areas of interest in both reading and writing.

Students gain the foundational skills needed for academic success when they move on to Cunha Middle School, which in turn prepares them for rigorous classes at Half Moon Bay High School.
